Our Story

The idea behind TORINO was born in 2023 over dinner:

Our founder, Christoph, realized that his meal was tasty but far too low in protein. So why not invent a soft drink you can have with food. One that refreshes you and provides high-quality protein at the same time? The vision of a “protein cola” was born!

From Idea to Startup

Luckily, Christoph had just completed his PhD in protein chemistry at the time. Together with Katrin, who brought more than 10 years of experience from the food industry, they developed the first formulations.

What started as a spontaneous idea has since grown into a Vienna-based startup with five team members. Since then, we’ve been working together to revolutionize the beverage market. Whether as the perfect refreshment after sports or as a smart companion to meals, TORINO is the soft drink with the greatest added value.

What is a “High-Protein Fun Soda”?

Imagine a conventional soda, then remove all the sugar and replace it with protein. The result is not just a soda with real added value, but a drink you can enjoy without a guilty conscience. Because it’s fun to feel better and healthier, we called it Fun Soda.

Who is it for (sports, everyday life, dieting, muscle building)?

It’s for everyone who enjoys drinking soda but also wants to eat healthy. Protein is an essential – if not the most important – macronutrient. Nothing works without protein. Whether you’re athletic, dieting, or a bodybuilder, TORINO tastes great, is healthy, and is for everyone.

When is the best time to drink TORINO (pre-/post-workout, in between)?

You can drink it whenever you feel like it. To get the most out of protein, it’s recommended to spread your intake throughout the day. You can enjoy TORINO as a “protein break” after training or with a meal to enhance it with valuable protein.

What does it taste like?

TORINO tastes incredibly refreshing and delicious — just like your favorite soda. It’s sweet, but not too sweet — and tastes 100% clean — meaning 0% like protein. See for yourself!

How strong is the carbonation?

We’d say pleasantly sparkling. Not too strong, but just enough to taste perfectly refreshing.

How can protein + carbonation even work?

It works because we use absolutely pure protein sources that are free from fats and acid-insoluble milk proteins. Thanks to our special protein blend, our drinks don’t taste like protein, but very clean. That’s why carbonation works perfectly with it.

How are you different from protein shakes / energy drinks?

TORINO is like a protein shake that doesn’t taste like protein, but like a great soda. Plus, with TORINO you never have to wash a shaker again — just grab the can from the fridge and you’re good to go. It’s that simple. TORINO is not an energy drink because it contains no caffeine. So you can enjoy it even before going to bed without any concerns.

Where are your products manufactured?

We source almost all of our ingredients from Austrian partners. For some ingredients, however, we couldn’t find Austrian suppliers — those come from within the EU. Our drinks are produced and bottled exclusively in Austria.

Which protein source is included?

We use a combination of multiple protein sources in both our whey-based and plant-based products to achieve the best possible taste and digestibility while maintaining optimal protein quality. In our whey-based products, the main protein source is whey protein, blended with a combination of collagen and amino acids. This combination not only improves the taste of the whey protein, but also prevents bloating. In addition, this blend achieves a protein quality of 100% (equivalent to egg protein). In our plant-based products, the main protein source is pea protein. However, since pea protein contains too little of one essential amino acid, we add rice protein — the two protein sources complement each other very well. Additionally, we include an amino acid blend to achieve a protein quality of 100% here as well – comparable to egg protein.

Is it “complete” protein?

All of our products contain a complete protein source — all essential amino acids are included in proportions that result in a Chemical Score of 100. That is considered very high quality and is equivalent to egg protein.

How much protein per can?

Each can contains exactly 15g of protein.

How good is the digestibility? (Bloating, stomach comfort)

Due to the high purity of our protein sources, our drinks are particularly easy to digest — not only do they not taste like protein, but they also don’t cause bloating. The best way to find out is to try it yourself!

Is it lactose-free / how much lactose does it contain?

All of our products are lactose-free — so if you’re lactose intolerant, you don’t need to worry at all!

Is it vegan?

Our plant-based products are vegan (currently the Blackcurrant flavor). You can enjoy these without any concerns. All other flavors contain proteins from animal sources and are therefore not suitable for vegans.

How do you sweeten it and does it contain aspartame?

No, we do not use aspartame. We use a special blend of “sweet protein” (achieved through the right combination of different protein sources) together with the two sweeteners sucralose and acesulfame-K. This allows our drinks to taste as if they contain sugar, while actually reducing the amount of sweeteners compared to other light and zero products. And all of that without aspartame. That’s why our drinks taste like they contain sugar – without actually containing any sugar.

Do the products contain flavorings or colorings?

Yes, we use flavorings and colorings in all of our products. Flavorings are important for the delicious taste of our drinks, and colorings are important for their appearance. All of our flavorings and colorings are strictly tested and completely safe. In addition, we exclusively use flavorings produced in Austria by Austrian partners.

Why are “additives” necessary?

Additives such as flavorings are necessary to guarantee consistent product quality. In theory, instead of mango flavoring, we could use mango juice from pressed mangoes – but that would not only be extremely complicated, it would also be incredibly expensive. Additionally, mangoes are not available in the same quality all year round. Only by using flavorings and colorings can we ensure that our products always taste the same.

Allergens

Our whey-based products contain milk protein. If you are sensitive to milk protein, we recommend choosing the “Blackcurrant” flavor — it is not only plant-based, but also free from known allergens.

Gluten-free?

Yes, no worries if you have celiac disease — our products are 100% gluten-free.

Lactose-free?

All of our products are lactose-free — so if you’re lactose intolerant, you don’t need to worry at all!

Is it vegan?

The “Blackcurrant” flavor is fully plant-based and therefore vegan. All other flavors contain non-vegan protein sources.

How many kcal per can?

Each can contains 61 kcal – these calories come exclusively from the protein it contains.

Does 0 sugar really mean 0? Where does the sweet taste come from?

Yes – it contains absolutely no sugar. The sweet taste comes from a combination of sweet protein and the two sweeteners sucralose and acesulfame-K.

Carbohydrates / fat / salt – how much exactly?

Our whey-based products contain none of these. The plant-based Blackcurrant variant contains 0.14 g of salt.

Is it suitable for weight loss / low-carb / keto?

Yes – high-protein foods are ideal for weight loss, low-carb, and keto diets. Our products contain absolutely no carbohydrates. Additionally, protein not only keeps you full, but the conversion of protein into fat is very energy-intensive and demanding for the human body. TORINO is therefore the perfect companion for weight loss.

Can I drink it daily?

Yes, you can consume TORINO several times a day without concern. There is nothing in it that you need to worry about. However, always make sure to maintain a balanced diet – while TORINO contains protein, it does not contain fiber, omega-3 fats, and so on. You’ll need to get those from other sources.

Is it suitable for children / teenagers / pregnancy / breastfeeding?

Yes, TORINO can be consumed without concern at any stage of life.

For lactose intolerance / sensitive stomach?

Yes, due to the high purity of the protein, TORINO is particularly easy to digest. It also contains no lactose. Just give it a try and see for yourself!

Is it bad for the kidneys or liver?

For healthy individuals, protein is not only harmless but absolutely essential for survival. There are no known “harmful overdoses.” However, if you have pre-existing conditions such as chronic kidney disease, you should be cautious. In that case, consult a doctor before following a high-protein diet.

Who are you, actually?

We are a small Vienna-based startup – founded by scientists with the goal of bringing healthy protein drinks to the market. It all started with just the two of us, Katrin & Christoph. Today, we are a team of five: Katrin develops and blends our products, Noam and Toni handle marketing and social media, Stefan builds our business partnerships, and Christoph manages the company.

Why did you start producing protein soda?

It all started when Christoph was unhappy with the nutritional values of his dinner after a workout — oven-roasted vegetables with far too little protein. That’s when he had the idea of adding protein to his Coke Zero. At least that’s how the idea was born. It took almost two years before TORINO was officially founded. During that time, there was a lot of research, work, and development. At some point, Katrin joined — and without her, the products would never have become as good as they are today.

How do you actually know how to do this?

We had been working with protein long before TORINO — not only in our own nutrition but also scientifically. As part of his PhD, Christoph researched proteins for years, and Katrin worked for nearly a decade as a flavor and product developer at large companies. The reason TORINO tastes so good while also having excellent nutritional values is simply that the two of them found each other.
